Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres is one of my favorite all-inclusive resorts for weddings for many reasons. The fabulous wedding venues and easily customizable wedding package, the gorgeous rooms, and the delicious dining options, and the ability to have both a family friendly AND an adults only experience, all at one property. So now I want to share how to plan your destination wedding at Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres.

If you don’t know, I’m a certified Destination Wedding Expert Travel Agent, and I’ve planned many weddings at Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres (and been in one with my sister-in-law, too!). I loooove this resort, and love helping couples plan their dream destination weddings here (or at any other all-inclusive resort).

If you’re considering a destination wedding, I know you’ve got some questions. So I figured the best way to help you understand Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres and its wedding offerings would be to have one, large FAQ.

Let’s dive in.

destination wedding planning at Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres

How far in advance do we need to plan our destination wedding at Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres?

I typically recommend starting to plan your destination wedding at this or any resort 12-18 months in advance.

If you are super in love with premium wedding venues like the Sky Gazebo, you might consider starting even earlier, though I recently booked a wedding date at the Sky Gazebo about 9 months in advance, and they happened to have a date available, so it’s definitely doable!

Remember, if you’ve got a lot of “must haves” on your wedding wish list like specific venues, very specific dates or days of the week (Saturdays sell out quickly!), a good rule of thumb is to start planning as early as possible, so you’ll be able to get what you want from the resort’s calendar.

Here’s my free, printable destination wedding planning timeline that dives into much more detail.

How much is the deposit for a wedding package?

Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres is unique in that they don’t require a deposit up-front to hold your wedding, nor do they ask for final payment until you check-in at the resort. At that point, you will review your final guest count and wedding details, and pay the sum at that time.

However, some premium wedding venues like the Sky Gazebo, Sky Terrace, and Sky Lounge come with additional fees in order to use them for your wedding. 50% of those fees must be paid as a deposit at the time of booking.

Note that other vendors outside of the resort’s main wedding package – photographers, florists, musicians, entertainers, etc. will have their own payment structures, and typically do require at least deposits early on, if not full payment.

Do their wedding packages include literally everything we need, or should we hire outside vendors?

Yes and no…

As you can see in the wedding packages above, not every detail that you might want to include in your big day is actually included in their wedding packages. Things like lighting, photography, videography, and entertainment, for instance, might be additional vendors to consider.

They will offer their recommendations for their preferred vendors, but you are also welcome to bring or hire outside vendors, for a fee.

What are the wedding venue options at Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres?

There are several gorgeous wedding venues at Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres, including a Sky Terrace (this one is the most popular, and comes with a deposit, as I mentioned above). They also have a beach gazebo, garden terrace, ballrooms, and more!

Read more about the wedding venues HERE.

What are the outside vendor fees at Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres, and can we avoid paying them?

If you want to bring in a vendor that is not on Majestic’s preferred vendor list that they provide at the time of booking your wedding, that’s okay! But be aware that the resort (like almost all resorts these days) does charge an “outside vendor fee” for bringing someone who they don’t already know and trust onto their property for your events.

The fee is $1,000 per vendor per service, and if the vendor brings additional staff, it is an additional $90 per person, per day.

If you’re using the same company for photography and videography services, the vendor fee applies to each service.

If you’re bringing flower decorations (fresh or silk) from an outside vendor, a vendor fee will apply even if the vendor just drops off your flowers and doesn’t enter the resort.

(I know this sounds expensive, but this is actually one of the cheapest vendor fees right now, as of 2025, but shh don’t tell them!)

Can you avoid the outside vendor fee?

And the good news is that, yes! There is a way to avoid paying the outside vendor fee for most types of vendors. If your vendor travels with the group and stays at the resort for 3 nights (minimum), booked through your room block, then the wedding team will waive the outside vendor fees for that vendor.*

*Note that this does NOT apply to photographers and videographers.  You’ll still need to pay the outside vendor fee for these vendors, even if they stay in your room block.

This is typically a lucrative idea for any couples who are flying a vendor out from the states or elsewhere, especially if they’ll be providing services for more than one day / event. In that situation, you’re probably already paying for their travel, room, and services. So it’s great to not have to pay the outside vendor fee, particularly if they’re providing multiple days of service ($1,000 x # of days of service).

However, if you’re bringing in someone local to the Cancun area, it’s likely that they’ll just go home after your wedding, so you won’t have to pay for them to stay at this all-inclusive resort for 4+ days. The outside vendor fee will be cheaper.

So yes, there are ways around it, but sometimes it makes more sense to just pay the outside vendor fee

how to set a date for your destination wedding

Can we bring our own wedding decor?

Yes, you can bring some types of decor, which will be stipulated by your wedding contract and team. Sometimes there are certain rules which must be followed, such as no fake flower petals outdoors, etc. but these details will be shared by the wedding team.

Overall, I don’t usually recommend bringing your own decor for a few reasons.

The first of which is the additional cost that the resort will charge you to set up that decor (see below). Plus you’ll have to physically transport everything with you into Mexico, which can be difficult, time-consuming, and costly.

Finally, I bet you chose to have a destination wedding so you wouldn’t have to DIY everything and worry about every little detail. That’s wonderful because the resort will handle everything for you!! So why make things more difficult for yourself?  You’re already traveling with wedding attire (have you ever flown with a wedding dress? That’s a whole task unto itself), do you really want to bring multiple suitcases filled with items you purchased and then just have to take back home or throw away? No thanks.

But, of course you may choose to bring your own decor items if you want. However, Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres charges fees to set up those items for you, based on the event (ceremony or reception? Each has their own charge) and your guest count.

Can we bring our own champagne for the toast or reception drinks?

Yes you can, but Majestic charges a corkage fee of $10 USD per bottle. And you’ll want to be sure to follow all importing rules when entering the country.

To avoid that corkage fee and messing around with importing rules, I recommend using the champagne provided by the resort.

Room block requirements at Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres

We always recommend that your entire group stay on property, however we know that some situations arise where some guests simply cannot do that, particularly with this resort that requires a 4-night minimum stay.

There is also a requirement that you have a minimum of 10 rooms booked to maintain your room block contract. This means that you MUST have at least 10 rooms booked, each for a minimum of a 4 night stay, in order to utilize your group rates and get any perks that the contract promises.

Your wedding contract will require 90% of your guests to stay at Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres, and those 10% or less of your guests who stay off-site must purchase a full day pass in order to attend the wedding.

To learn more about general room blocks, click here.

What’s the cost of a day pass if a guest stays off-site?

If any wedding guests choose to stay off-site, they must purchase a full day pass for the day of the wedding, which costs $140 per person, and allows them on-property from 9 am until your reception ends.

You will need to turn in a list of those guests and how they will be paying for their day passes in advance, and they will need to bring their passports with them at the time of check-in for their day on-property.

Note that guest pass availability can change at any time, and is dependent on the occupancy level of the resort. Therefore, in order to ensure all of your wedding guests who traveled to Cancun can actually attend your wedding, it is recommended that everyone stay on-site at the resort.

Is this a family-friendly resort or an adults only resort?

This resort is cool because it’s kind of both, and offers a great option for most all groups!

Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres is a family friendly resort, but has 2 adults-only buildings out of their 3 total room buildings. There are several adults-only areas around the resort, beach, (bars, of course), and even one restaurant.

In fact, during my stay here, I saw very few kids, except for in the common area at night where the entertainment and restaurants are found. Most of the time, kids were farther away, in their own pools, in the kids club, etc.

So if you’ve got a group that wants an adults-only vibe, this is still a great resort!

But, if you’ve got a group who has kids, even if only a few kids, this resort is still a great option! You can easily have folks who want an adults-only atmosphere book rooms in those buildings, and the folks with kids, or who want to be very close to the folks with kids (grandparents, etc.), can choose to be in the family-friendly room. Easy-peasy!

What are the benefits of a room block at Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres? Will there be discounted rooms? Do we get a free wedding?

Great questions! There are many benefits to having a room block contracted with the resort! I’ve got a much more detailed post just about room blocks, but I’ll give you the short and sweet version here.

  1. Room blocks guarantee inventory so the resort absolutely WILL NOT sell out before your group has a chance to book all the rooms they need.
  2. Room blocks guarantee pricing, so if resort prices increase later, your guests will not pay the new, higher rates. They’ll be locked in at the contracted rate that you hopefully book 12-18 months in advance (they’ll thank you later!)
  3. You home great perks for being the “group leaders” and bringing your wedding group to the resort. (Typically some type of cash back after travel)
  4. Unfortunately, most ‘discounts’ for room blocks went the way of the dodo after COVID. But, room block contracts almost always either match or beat the resort’s prices that you’ll see directly online. And / or sometimes they are more inclusive – for instance, my contract prices always include the cost of round trip ground transportation in the cost of the room.
  5. Yes, there is a free wedding package here for those who meet the minimum requirements, though it’s probably not what you’re looking for – check out the wedding packages section 😉

Can we visit this resort before signing a wedding contract?

Yes, of course you can visit the resort before committing to having your destination wedding there!

While Majestic does not explicitly advertise a discounted stay, that is always something that I can request on your behalf when helping arrange a stay, plus a meeting with the wedding coordinator and a tour of the resort and wedding venues.

If you want to arrange a visit and meeting with the wedding team, I’m happy to help!

I’ve also put together a guide on everything you need to know for a wedding resort tour – click here to read it!

Is there a good place for an after-party on-property?

While Majestic Elegance is not known as a big party scene, there are definitely a couple of bars that you and your destination wedding guests can take advantage of after your reception ends!

The Sports Bar is my favorite for an after-party, because there’s something for everyone! Sports on giant screens for those who can’t miss the big game, lots of music, and various billiard / board games for those of us who’d rather play games!

There are a couple other bars on property that stay open late as well.

Plus, McJestic (yes, really), is available for your super late-night snacking needs, if you don’t want to call for room service after you finish partying!

Do they have a bridal suite or groom’s room?

Yes! The bridal suite is great and super fun! I got to have their wonderful hair service done here while getting ready with my sister-in-law and her friends!

Throughout the day they brought us drinks, then snacks to soak up the drinks, and some great finger food for a light lunch before the big day! Plus they kept us hydrated, on schedule, and having a blast! All while providing hair and makeup services for 8+ girls. I’d highly recommend it!

They also have a new groom’s lounge that’s brand new and lots of fun for the guys! They can get dressed, have snacks and drinks, play video games, watch sports, and just relax before the groom ties the knot!

You’ll book this room in advance with your resort wedding coordinator.

Does Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres offer same-sex weddings?

Yes! I only work with resorts who do. 🙂  That aligns with my “no jerks” policy.

Can I bring my own officiant?

Yes, absolutely!!

If you do not want to bring your own officiant, there’s a small fee of $350 to use the resort’s recommended officiant

Is there a Catholic chapel on property?

No, unfortunately there is not at Catholic chapel at Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres. If you want to stay here and have a ceremony in a Catholic chapel, you would have to travel off-site to one.

They do have one at their Punta Cana, Dominican Republic location, though!

What are the requirements for a Symbolic Ceremony vs. Legal / Civil Ceremony in Mexico?

Whenever possible, I recommend that my couples opt for a Symbolic Ceremony, where they get legally married in the States first, and then have a symbolic ceremony only in Mexico. Some couples choose to have a ceremony at home, some people keep it very low-key and just get married on paper – the choice is ultimately yours!

But because a Symbolic Ceremony only requires a copy of your marriage certificate or license, this is by far the easiest (and cheapest) way to have a destination wedding in Mexico!

For a Civil Ceremony at Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres, it is required for the couple to arrive 3 business days before the wedding. They also must provide the following:

  • Photocopy of birth certificates + translation into Spanish, notarized
  • Single Status declaration + translation into Spanish, notarized
  • Original divorce decree (if applicable) or Widowhood certification (if applicable) + translation into Spanish, notarized
  • Photocopy of passports of the couple + 2 witnesses who are non-relatives
  • Wedding ceremony will be performed in Spanish
  • Wedding documentation will be in Spanish, and must be translated and notarized for an English copy

(Plus, you’re still going to have to get married on paper in the states when you get home)

Are there buffet or plated meal options for our wedding reception?

Yes! While the main offerings are 3 standard buffets, there are alternate options such as a dessert bar, taco bar, Indian buffet, Mexican buffet, and a Plated Dinner.

What if we don’t want everything that comes in a wedding package? Can we get a discount for anything we don’t use?

Unfortunately no, they cannot remove items or offer a discount on a wedding package if you don’t use everything that is included. This is standard practice with all all-inclusive resorts.

However, the wedding package at Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres is intentionally not very inclusive. This way you can add on things that you DO want, without worrying about having to pay for things you don’t want. I LOVE that they handle wedding packages this way!

How much should we expect to spend on destination wedding photography?

This is a loaded question – there are a lot of variables, and different photographers out there at all kinds of price ranges!

Your photography costs will depend on several factors, such as the quality and experience of your photographer, how many hours / events they cover, how many shooters you hire, how many edited images you will get back later, how your photos are delivered, and more.

But in general, the standard price range of destination wedding photographers varies between $3,500 – $10,000.

Of course you can find photographers who charge more or less than this broad window, but this hopefully gives you a baseline of expectations.

How many restaurants does Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres have?

There are 9 fabulous restaurants at this all-inclusive resort:

  • Il Botaccio – For dinner, all guests can enjoy a la carte Italian fine dining. For breakfast and lunch, this is an exclusive a la carte restaurant for Elegance Club guests only.
  • Don Juame – An Argentinian steakhouse that offers incredible cuts of beef in a fine fining experience.
  • Mariachi Loco – Authentic Mexican cuisine in a fun and lively atmosphere, complete with a live Mariachi band! Plus, there’s a tequileria inside where you can enjoy tequila tastings.
  • McJestic – Yes, really. This is a late-night, fast-food spot for a convenient bite when you need it most!
  • Beach Grill – A self-service hotdog and hamburger stand near the beach, this is perfect for grabbing a quick bite and getting back to the fun!
  • Flavors Buffet – This is a large buffet (one of my favorites in Mexico) that’s open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!
  • Mar House Restaurant – This beachfront restaurant offers panoramic views and a large, international buffet for lunch and afternoon snacks, but transforms into an a la carte, cooked-to-order seafood restaurant for dinner.
  • Kabuki – If you’re a fan of Japanese food, the 7 Teppanyaki tables or sushi bar are the place for you! You’ll want to make reservation in advance for this restaurant so you can snag one of the coveted hibachi tables.
  • Bistro– This elegant restaurant also requires reservations, and is exclusively for adults (18+).
