I recently had the pleasure of helping Matt and Morgan with their real Mexico destination wedding! This gorgeous couple tied the knot at Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres – just north of Cancun, Mexico.
Morgan and Matt were a joy to work with, and it was so great to meet and help their friends and family with their travel plans, as well!
Now that it’s all finished, I asked M&M about their experience so I could share it with you – here’s what they said:

Real Destination Wedding Couple Interview
What were your biggest fears when planning a destination wedding – especially before we started working together?
We were most nervous about choosing a location and a resort sight unseen.
I hear this all the time, and it’s a perfectly valid concern! Of course you’re nervous to choose a vacation spot for yourselves and all your loved ones without seeing it in advance, let alone your wedding venue!!
But that’s where I come in – I provide each of my couples with a detailed resort proposal, outlining everything they need to know about the resort, and including my own, real, unedited photos and videos of the resort. That way you know exactly what you’re getting- not just the photoshopped version you see online.
Did you try and “save” on anything wedding or travel related for your destination wedding?
We splurged on accommodations and plane tickets! For us it was worth it, because it was something special we really wanted to do.
We also upgraded our buffet food for our reception and thought it was totally worth it!
I loveee that M&M chose these splurges. So many people say, “I’m not going to spend any time in my room, so I don’t care what room we get!” but I’ve got to disagree with that sentiment, especially for wedding couples getting married at the resort!
Remember, the room you choose for your destination wedding resort stay is not just for your vacation – it’s for your wedding night.
It’s the start of your honeymoon, and of your lives together.
If you’re going to splurge on something for yourselves, I totally agree with making it your room! Plus, arriving in style on an upgraded plane ticket? YES PLEASE!

Did you try and “save” on anything wedding or travel related? If so, what did you save on, and was it worth it?
We kept our guest list small – under 50 guests. We also kept decor minimal and brought our own custom printed items and wedding favors for guests.
I absolutely love an intimate wedding. It’s just you, your person, and your very closest friends and family. I love that M&M got to do this for their destination wedding in Mexico.
After all, you probably don’t want to spend a 3 day vacation with Linda from Marketing – why invite her to your wedding?

What kind of feedback did you get from your guests?
Everyone loved the resort and had a blast!!
I love, love, love to hear this! I spend a lot of time and money traveling to Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Saint Lucia, and other destinations to meet with wedding teams, tour properties, and get to know resorts for my couples. One of the things I most love to do is “match make” my couples with the perfect all inclusive resorts for their destination weddings.
It’s incredible to see a group really love the resort that couples and I pick together, and I’m so glad the M&M wedding group had an amazing time at Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres in Mexico!

In what ways did Allison Slater or Tailored Travel Experiences make wedding planning and travel planning less stressful for you?
Allison was by far the best investment for all of our coordination needs. It was so nice to direct all questions to her, and for her to be so knowledgeable about all travel needs. There was no way we could have organized this wedding without her!
🥰 Thanks, guys!! I work with the absolute best couples!
It’s an honor to be trusted to handle the questions and travel reservations (an investment!) of my amazing engaged couples and their destination wedding guests. I LOVE taking guest questions off my couples’ plates, so they can relax and enjoy their engagement, without frantic googling, endless research, and worrying if their grandma will be taken care of.
I’ve got her, and I’ve got you.

Now that you’ve been through it all, what’s your best piece of advice for engaged couples just starting to plan a destination wedding?
Our best piece of advice for destination wedding couples would be to take your time in finding the right resort!
Try to meet your wedding coordinator beforehand, as they make a huge difference in your experience. Don’t be afraid to ask them for what you want!! Most of the time, they can make anything happen!
This is so true, and a great piece of advice from my now-experienced destination wedding couple!!
Wedding coordinators deal with a LOT of weddings every year, and sometimes even multiple weddings per day. Communication with them can be.. well, interesting, sometimes. It’s good to know this in advance, but it’s even better to meet them via phone or zoom if possible, to establish some rapport and get to know each other!
Wedding coordinators at all inclusive resorts do a different job than traditional wedding planners, day-of coordinators, and destination wedding expert travel agents. We each do a different job, and it’s important to find someone you trust and work well with to plan your perfect wedding!

What is your favorite memory of your destination wedding?
Our reception was a blast and a memory that we’ll have forever! Everyone had a great time, and seeing everyone together was unforgettable.
I’m so glad this was their answer! It’s easy to get bogged down in all the little details of wedding planning, but at the end of the day a wedding is for the two of you to tie the knot, and for you two to celebrate with those people all together in this place, at this time. You can never get that day back, that experience, or that exact group of people in the same circumstance.
Really spending time with your friends and family is one of the highlights of every destination wedding, and is a big reason why couples choose destination weddings in the first place!
