Last December, Lexie and Ryan had a gorgeous destination wedding at the lovely Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres, and followed it up with a stunning honeymoon at Hotel Xcaret Arte.

The weather held off just long enough for these lovebirds to tie the knot and celebrate with their friends and family. Now that they’re back, they’re excited to share some insider tips for planning a destination wedding!

Destination Wedding Couple Interview – Lexie & Ryan

These two kind humans were so kind to share a few photos with us, and allow me to ask them some questions to help out future couples interested in planning a destination wedding.

What were your biggest fears or annoyances before planning a destination wedding?

“Before we started working with Allison, I was so overwhelmed at the idea of finding a resort and knowing what part of Mexico we wanted to be in!

I was also terrified of the price and trying to coordinate with people in another country. So when my then-fiance (now husband!!) found Allison, it was a game-changer!”

Was there anything about your experience that surprised you?

“Yes! The sheer number of emails with the resort! It was nice to have such good communication, but also shocking at the sheer number of people we interacted with before we ever stepped foot on the resort.”

Did you splurge on anything wedding or travel related? If so, what did you splurge on, and was it worth it?

“We opted for the cheaper wedding resort (which was still so nice!) and moved to a more expensive resort for our honeymoon. It was worth EVERY PENNY.”

If you could change anything about your wedding, what would you change?

“It rained on our reception, and we still wouldn’t change a thing!!”

Now that you’ve been through it all, what’s your #1 best piece of advice for wedding couples who are just starting the destination wedding planning process?

“Immediately contact Allison so she can help get the wedding of your dreams planned!”

“The best part was knowing that we had someone already familiar with the process to guide us through the steps, set up our transportation, etc. Made it way less stressful, since we didn’t have to focus on the details!”

How many guests did you originally invite to your wedding, and how many actually came?

“32 out of 75 invited guests attended our beautiful wedding!”

What is your favorite memory of your destination wedding?

“Our wedding dinner was INSANE! I did not expect the food to be as amazing as it was. Surprised us all, including our guests.”
