“All inclusive wedding package” sounds pretty comprehensive, right?

Like everything you want should be included?

Here’s what I’ve learned after reviewing dozens and dozens of resort’s all inclusive wedding packages: “all inclusive” doesn’t always mean that everything is included.. And all wedding packages are NOT created equally.

Let’s decode what you’re actually getting:

The “Free Wedding” Package

Sure, this sounds free, but it’s usually only complimentary if you book a certain number of rooms for a certain number of nights. Then what’s included in this “free wedding” package is absolutely minimal. You’ll probably get a super-basic ceremony, probably in the sand, for a very small number of people (usually 5-10), with minimal decor, a one-tiered wedding cake, a very small number of basic, white flowers, and not much else.

Sure, it’s free (ish), but is that what you’re looking for?

(No judgement if it is.. But most of the couples I work with typically want more than this super-bare-minimum wedding and this bare-bones all inclusive wedding package. They know you get what you pay for, and a free wedding will probably look and feel free.)

The “Just the Two Of Us” Package

Most resorts have some kind of elopement package that’s literally only for the two of you. Usually this all inclusive wedding package will be somewhat similar to the “free” option, but you’ll probably get to pick a few more of your details (arch or backdrop, flowers, etc.) Lots of people use this for vow renewals, but again, most of my couples go a bit bigger.

The “Premium” Wedding Package

Resorts all have their own version of this all inclusive wedding package, and they’re typically going to offer you the best bang for your buck. They often include some version of: everything you need for the ceremony (arch/backdrop, chairs, flowers, officiant, microphone), everything you need for the cocktail hour (tall tables, wait staff, appetizers and drinks), and most everything you need for a basic reception (dinner, servers, bar and bartenders, cake (tiers based on the number of guests), chairs, tables, basic centerpieces, etc.).

These “Premium” packages often have a set price for a set number of guests – often 30, 40, or 50 guests. Then they’ll list a “price per additional guest” so you can add more folks on from there. These packages will sometimes include fun bonuses like hair and make-up services for the bride + a certain number of bridesmaids, access to a bridal or groom suite, etc.  In general, they include most everything you’ll need, with a few notable exceptions.

Exceptions To All Inclusive Wedding Packages

Photography & Videography

Most wedding packages do NOT include photography or videography. This is because those services are already so customizable and have so many options on their own, it’s nearly impossible to wrap their costs neatly into a consistent wedding package.

Entertainment and Other Extras

Similarly, if you want any “extras” – musicians, performers, fancy DJs, or other entertainment, that will likely be an additional cost on top of your all inclusive wedding package. If you are really planning to go all-out on florals, or any other intense decor, that will likely be an extra charge, too.

I know this is a lot, so here’s how I help my couples navigate this process.

How To Navigate All Inclusive Wedding Packages

First, I share the package information and go through the list of inclusions, and answer any questions you have about items you don’t see there.

Then we talk to the resort’s wedding team about any remaining questions, to ensure we understand what they’re going to provide for your big day. Plus, we find out about their recommended vendors, and get in touch with them, so even if something is not included in the package, we can be informed about what prices to expect from any outside vendors.

Throughout the whole process, I’m working to ensure my couples know what’s what as early as possible.

The goal isn’t to get the cheapest package, it’s to get exactly what you want for your dream destination wedding.. without any surprises.

That’s what you deserve, and that’s what I want for you!
